Celebrating White Ribbon Day

Cleaning car seats and packing baby bags is not part of the average G4S job description however on White Ribbon Day that's just what the G4S Corporate Office does.

St Kilda mums is a non for profit based in St Kilda, Melbourne. It is their mission that no Victorian child should go without the essential basics and work to rehome preloved nursery goods to support Victorian families in need while saving the earth’s precious resources. They collect, sort and redistribute essential nursery equipment, clothing, books and toys for babies and school age children.

G4S first encountered St Kilda Mums by looking for an avenue to give back to the community as a White Ribbon accredited workplace. Now in their fourth year of volunteering with St Kilda Mums it is a special date in their annual volunteering programme.

"Each year I look forward to being part of the team that volunteers at St Kilda Mums. They do such great work in the community taking care of children and families who can't provide for their children, many due to domestic Violence" Says Toni-Lisa Walsh. "We sort, pack, clean and not only do we really come together as a team we are doing it for a brilliant cause"

Working alongside non-for-profit community initiatives like St Kilda Mums in Melbourne and the Koolkuna Domestic Violence shelter in Perth allows G4S to foster positive relationships and grow the social movement at a community level, making a tangible difference to those experiencing Domestic Violence. As a result of the outstanding fundraising initiatives in support of White Ribbon’s primary prevention programme, G4S has been formally recognised and proudly cited as a 'best practice organisation' within the White Ribbon community, having the case study of their accreditation journey shared across Asia Pacific.

G4S attributes much of the success to the White Ribbon accreditation program. The program has helped G4S navigate complex issues and address them in a safe and structured way. It has supported the organisation in adapting their organisational culture, practices and procedures and helped to promote safe workplaces for women. It is clear to see that the health and wellbeing of all employees is important and G4S has taken positive steps to drive social change by helping prevent and respond to violence against women.
